We drove out yesterday to paint Cochise Stronghold. The road proved to be extremely bumping in our car.

Makes me long for the day I obtain a truck. :) Today we hiked up one of the mountains by the town, basically near the big "B" from my previous post. Instead of going to the B we just went to a hill over. The shrines at the top were amazing. Lovely hike.

So we've been back for less than a week from Scotland. It was a wintery wonderland there. Very pretty in all the snow. We attended a beautiful wedding, the bottom two paintings are gifts to the bride and groom. ASM delivered a very entertaining speech as best man. We went sledding, had a very interactive duck feeding experience, visited Stirling castle. We made new people and cat friends and ate way too much. All in all it was a wonderful time except for the brief colds we caught. It is also good to be back and after a couple days of wind rain and snow it is back to blue skies and sunniness.

So this here watercolour is not done en plein air. Its from a photograph I took about a week ago. We drove out here looking for free firewood that we got a permit to get in the big white truck from ASMA's work. It is so beautiful out here. There are a couple of ranches that make my heart melt. We are saving for our own truck or vehicle to take on these back roads. This was taken near Lochiel which is the tiniest town I've seen in awhile pretty close to the Mexican border. I've got a big new canvas for my next plein air piece. I've been working on some gifts for us to bear on our upcoming Scotland trip to family... which I don't want to post just yet.. but will be doing soon. It's amazing how close it is to Christmas and we are sitting here with blue skies nearly every day and beautiful sunshine.

Twitter, Rainn Wilson, his father and good times

Today I got a great email from the actor Rainn Wilson's father. I'm really excited about it and want to share it with you all. This really started with my new frequent use of twitter. Twitter can have a bad rap with some people but really I wanted to see for myself and see how I could use it as a tool. So I have added people and organizations that have the same interests as me. I have found other artists, galleries, art communities, local businesses, etc. So the other day I saw a list of celebrities really worth following, Rainn Wilson being one of them. I am already a big fan of "The Office" and I love the character of Dwight especially. In short I think Rainn Wilson is brilliant. So anyways yesterday I was thinking about another tweet I saw which made me laugh.. saying how every rich person should pick an artist to be patron to (I am available for partonage.) I also thought about how twitter connects people... me (artist, peon) to really funny successful famous people - on an almost personal level. So I thought how it would be neat if Rainn Wilson thought my art was cool or even wanted to be a patron of it.

Well - this morning I come to see Rainn's tweet saying: "Heres a great gift idea! A painting, print, drawing or litho from @rrwilsonart my dad's art website! Unique & 4ever! http://rrwilsonart.com/"

So I look up rrwilsonart.com and check out all their artists and spend a bit of time looking and then I decide well I think I'll write to them... So I explained why I was writing and sent them along to view my blog and flickr page. After getting home this afternoon from being in town I checked my email to find a reply from Robert Wilson. And here is what it says:

So yesterday I spent my afternoon at the Whitewater Draw Wildlife area. I love the place. It is where the Sand hill cranes migrate to spend the winter in this sky island. I had been one time before more in the morning but there was only a handful of cranes compared to yesterday when there were thousands of them. When I was finished with the painting and packing up I started to hear a noise like thunder and all the cranes were swooping around huge circles in the sky squawking away. The sound and visual was tremendous and was an experience I will never forget. What a lovely day! Here are some pictures from the day:

Still warm in Bisbee, its November and the afternoons are sunny and delightful. I prepared a lamb loin (from the farmers market) today in the crockpot with chillis tomatoes red wine basil onion and rosemary. It has been slow cooking all day awaiting the arrival of ASMA. This here is just a small painting but it was fun to do and great for practice of all the flora in my new surroundings. Not sure the name of the cactus... but there is some prickly pear peeking in the background.

I'm trying to get back into action. I did this today standing out in my backyard. I love these century plants and they are all around. This time of year though you see some fallen and others losing color as they die off. The weather has been really nice these last couple of days. Really nice and sunny warm during the day and then cooling off at night.

Yesterday it was my pleasure to visit the University of Arizona's art museum. There was lots to see and I loved looking at Brian Stauffer's work which happened to be on display. Very inspiring to stand amongst 13th and 14th century paintings too...

So finally the maddness of moving our lives to Bisbee AZ has subsided. I really feel like I am settling in nicely here in our new habitat. I also finally have the first piece done to the start of my Bisbee and Cochise County collection. It is such a beautiful area out here. The mountains in the landscape are lovely and grounding. The warm colors and sunny afternoons can be just delightful. I just love doing the laundry outside, keeping warm by the fire and doing the dishes in the sunlight of the morning, these are all things on my happy list. There is so much beautiful scenery to paint and enjoy. I look forward to the painting more.. until then au revoir.

So far have sold 3 of the paintings I hung at the cafe/restaurant Out of the Fire Cafe... If you haven't been there, the food is definitely worth the visit! They specialize in smoked salmon and other goodness... also located near Falling Waters.. I am very happy to have sold 3 already and hope to continue to sell more! I am not sure how long the paintings will be there as we are leaving them for a least a month or so I would say. We have a week to go in Pittsburgh and we will be hitting the road on our way to Bisbee AZ! Very excited as we have our house reserved for us to move right into! Finally have a garden again and half indoor/ outdoor space to have my art studio! We also discovered we have a pomengranate tree in our yard which is very exciting. Upon landing back in Pittsburgh today from my visit I realized how cold it is here and how allergic to the cold I am. Very very excited to migrate southwest :)

Here are the photos of the paintings on the wall at Out of the Fire Cafe. If you want to go visit them you should and feel free to buy one. I have already sold one that is from the Big Ego Series with the man flying with the birds above the mountains. Thanks to Mason for letting me hang the paintings and Out of the Fire for promoting my work. I have been in Elfrida for the past couple of days in which I have done a couple new paintings and we had our very first art class with the kids here at ASMA's camp. I will be posting pictures soon of the paintings everyone is doing. ASMA did a nice camel painting yesterday and the kids also did some interesting paintings too. Today we are taking them out to do some plein air painting so that should be fun. ASMA and I already found a new home in Bisbee for us and the cats. We are very excited as it is everything we were looking for.

So it has been a long time since I have posted but I have been doing some painting. I did this room divider for my Ma. She found this image online and I recreated it for her so I am not taking credit for the image. This however is not being sold and it will probably be a while before it even moves from the 3rd story of the house in which it dwells.

In other news, I hung up 18 paintings at a Out of the Fire Cafe. I will be posting about this next. One of the paintings the owner didn't like and had to come down.. which was muffin the gentle yak... if you are familiar with this painting. All others are still up and they are most of the plein air and some still life paintings I have done. So if you miss me or you just want to see my art, you should go visit the cafe and maybe even take home a piece ;)

Leaving for AZ very soon for 9 days which I will be off finding a place for me and ASMA to live so blog posts will not be flowing. However once we get settled into Bisbee I will be a' paintin' away. I look forward to when that day arrives. Mayhem has struck Pittsburgh with the G20 summit and I have a flight on Friday morning right in the middle of it. The good news though is I will get to see my ASMA after only seeing him for 11 hours in the past 16 weeks, and it will be his birthday on top of that. We are to spend the day in Tucson together then to Elfrida and Bisbee from there.
Good times.. hate to leave the cats behind but we will hit the road soon enough.

Had a very busy weekend. Saturday I was at Crafts N'At at The Union Project in Pittsburgh. I had most of my new paintings there... didn't sell any paintings.. but did get some inquires. If you are interested in buying any of the art off of my blog please email me at srbridget@gmail.com.

We attended a pig roast on sunday in erie, pa in honor of labor day. This was my first proper pig roast and I was amazed at the sight of a whole roasted pig... I decided to do a painting of the pig towards the end of the party after it had been mauled by the humans. I guess I am embracing the morbid side of life with this one. It was hard for me to stop looking at this and it is interesting that we do this sort of thing. I hope you take interest in this one as well.. and enjoy if possible.

Who's counting anyways? Even if people do follow this blog they remain largely unknown. So I had to take a couple vacation days/sick days and I'm behind on my 253 by so and so date. I am thinking that this was an unrealistic goal anyhow.. really I need to give myself a break for weekends - also it is official that ASMA, the cats and me are moving to Arizona in a month which will be even more time off to pack and drive across country and establish ourselves there. So anyways.. here are two new paintings from today. Maybe I'll figure out how many paintings I need with weekend breaks.

Very sorry to inform that I will not be able to post paintings for awhile. By the time I get back I need to have 13 paintings. I probably could have done a painting today but it would have been too much considering all the happenings.

I met my new friend today, a nameless kitten from ASMA's workplace. It is sooooooooooooooo cute... I held it all the way home in the backseat of Dan's car. I want to name it Montgomery if it is a boy and ASM wants to name it Ian.. but with the Scottish spelling. It also might be a girl as it's nether regions where a rather sensitive place to examine at first - as it has the dreaded monkey butt. We cleaned it off with the hose, then later I gave it a rinse down with some warm water in the bath. The little guy definitley needs some medicine so ASM will take it to the vet tommorow and be in charge of the integration of it with current cats.

Dan came to fetch ASMA with me due to me locking the keys in the house by me. Which has been the first time at this place and I have to do it at least once per place to figure out how good security is. We did however have a nice meal with the folks KP and CDP.

Tommorow we leave to go to Oakland, SF, Mendocino, Gualala, Point Arena, Elk, & Comptche.

We found this photo packed away in storage. The photos was taken by CDP I believe back the early 90s when we made our trek from Gualala, CA to come live in Titusville, Pennsylvania. The location is Salt Lake City, UT, my birth state. Utah is beautiful! If you click on the picture you will be able to see more detail. I had the grand pleasure of painting with my dear friend Preetha this evening. We had a nice time as we painted for hours. I was inspired by Shan to take a herbal bath today, which I did as well. I definitley reccomend this as it was interesting and very relaxing. I'm all about creating mini spa experiences in your own bathroom :)

Another long day has passed. Summer is the best season for me but it sure does wear you out! Its good to be worn out after hibernating in PA for 6 months or so. Dropped off the ASM for his quest at 7 this morning. Long drive back and forth, back and forth, what a terrible drive ASMA has to deal with. I feel for him that's why its nice to be able to offer my company on the drive when I can. Spent the morning with KP + CDP. We went to fill up for spring water and took a small hike to pick some goldenrod which KP might use in her upcoming soap making project. On our drive back to Pittsburgh we encountered monsoon rainfall and of course a semi was on my rear what seemed like the whole time. HANSHAN* came over after a nice dinner with the family to paint with me, so I could complete my painting for the day. As I was tired we managed to get in the spirit of painting. We decided to do portraits of one another.

Also it is nice to push yourself, as from this painting I get the satisfaction of doing something well even though I was tired and not wanting to do the exercise.

So this is totally not what I expected to come out of the painting a day exercise. This morning I woke up at 5 am to shower and drive with ASMA to Franklin. I was in a kayak for 4 hours from 10am to 2pm on the river with KP & CDPTitus (they were in a canoe which I continually tboned.) Needless to say we were all a bit spent after our morning/afternoon excursion on the river. After a skype conference call with JPMorgan, TDawg & Nell... I decided that I have to do my painting. So I sat in KP's backyard and felt very uninspired. I started to paint some blackeyed susans then decided this wasn't working out and switched to paint this money tree. It turned out to be kind of abstract but it gets the job done for a small painting. It also gave me a chance to experiment more with oils which can be tricky sometimes especially after getting used to acrylics. I got cut short on the amount of time I was going to spend on this painting as a vicious thunderstorm rolled in. I hope you enjoy!!

Painting done for the day! We live in a suburb of Pittsburgh called Observatory Hill... here is the actual observatory that is a short walk away from our place. I finally busted out the oils today after awhile of not using them, and of course when I got back I had to drop the painting on the carpet. It did not stain as I cleaned it right away but it just solidifies my hatred of carpeting. Someday I'll have wooden floors! Anyways it was nice working with oils again as they definitely have their perks and downfalls... but its nice for the blending and mixing ability they have. You can also work the texture more. The trouble is the storing and carrying of them. These are all things I need to find more out about. This is good practice as I will be arriving at PShan's in northern CA to paint & apprentice in little over a weeks time.

So I have decided to paint our kitteens. This decision came after starting a picture then completely destroying the picture to get the background then painting in the rest, my cool kitties. I have been wanting to paint them for some time now but they kind of made their way in spontaneously. I know this is a change of style yet again and I have thought about the idea of sticking to a style... but first I'm still having fun so I want to try as many things as I want then hear some opinions on what to do from there.

So today we had Pseudo Brit come over for painting. I'm pretty sure this is the first time he has painted. ASMA also painted and worked on his new painting which is continuation of the Ron Jeremy painting... ASMA got ADD half way through and needed to stop. Sometimes he is like a needy child. We then set up to play one of the board games that Pseudo Brit brought over - my favorite one - Pandemic. Very interesting game in which you play against the board game and collaborate with each other to win and stop infection from becoming outbreaks, which if you have too many outbreaks - the game is over. We lost both times as we did when we first played, nevertheless, it was still good fun and at least if we lose, we lose together. Todays painting is crap but I don't mind, that is how it goes... somedays you have to get out the crap so you can shine the next day. Yesterdays painting though I like very much and I am thinking of doing more like this. Perhaps a dream I had that involved jumping from skyscraper to skyscraper. Here are some photos of our day...

Preetha came over to my place today to do some studio art! Yay! We got right to work this morning of course only to be interrupted by scam artists (see last post). I got over the whole thing quite quickly though as I dove right back into my painting to finish it up. This is a continuation of yesterdays painting and much larger than the other ones I have been doing for the once a day exercise/project. It is nice to stretch out though, as my aunt would say when you start to get used to the small size switch it up.

So everyone has their different ideas of success. I am left pondering this after an hour of my day was wasted on the phone talking to these people who claim to be a legitimate business, Bankcard Empire, whom are recruiting people in different areas to help businesses in the area open up credit card merchant accounts or switch over their current service. I thought it was too good to be true but they are very convincing to try to get you to sign up. I ended up on the phone with them awhile as it almost became a game as to see if they thought that I would just be passive enough and agree and give money then they were wrong! I really pissed the guy off, the supposed supervisor, and he ended up saying to me, "well then I guess you are ok with being unsuccessful?," and I said, "yes, thank you, I am quite happy being unsuccessful." ... and he said, "well then have fun in your apartment!" Wow the nerve people have wasting you day trying to get you to sign up for this... and I guess I shouldn't be too angry as I went along with it to see what they had to say. Just too add to that as well, I quite like my apartment, actually it is my favorite one thus far!

The company is called bankcard empire and I'm pretty sure these guys are talented scam artists. Amazing times we live in!

For the success, of course this is different for everybody! The important thing is that whatever I do, successful or unsuccessful the real question will be, what have you learned from it...

Very busy day today as I finally finished my painting this evening

as the day was finishing. Down to the last drop.

We spent the morning at a random plaza stretch in Wexford, PA. Francois Le Car was sick and needed new spark plugs and cables or wires or something. ASMA kept trying to lead me on that this was all horrible and it was such a terrible day, but then began to realize that it wasn't so bad after all, as we had quite a nice leisurely breakfast at a new bakery with lemon blueberry scones and apple and tea/coffee :) It was very delicious and perhaps my favorite part of the day. We browsed through the papers and relaxed. We also got a bunch of thank you cards written. The man at the dealership tried to tell us at the end that our suspension was all messed up and needed taken care of.. ASMA being the saavy city driver he is went straight away to our local Monroe Muffler and Brake in West View. The friendly mechanic there took a look under our car and explained to us about suspension and how it was actually not ready to fail us at any moment and how those were sales tactics being used on us. ASMA at one point in the conversation referred to him as being an honest mechanic, which made me smile, he said, “so now that your playing honest mechanic I have a couple of other questions I would like to ask you”.

When Francois was fixed we took him to the Pat Catans art store in Aliquippa and we stocked up on canvases to keep up with this one painting a day project. There is rumor that Friday, Pseudo Brit and ASMA will be here for painting, which would be rather nice as I always welcome a fellow painter or two to join in the fun.

Tonight's painting was done at Preethas house, which she inspired me to do something a bit different for my daily painting. She asked me if I had a dream I wanted to paint or visualize... and straight away I thought of what I wanted to do in loose terms then the paint did the rest of the talking. This painting is about flying in dreams, which I have been doing throughout my earthly life. Since I have been made redundant I have been seeing airplanes almost everyday and so I felt like these airplanes in the sky have been burned images on my brain for some time now. The red circle is Mars, as there was some email circulating about being able to see Mars and how it is supposed to be as big as the moon on August 27th. Not quite sure if this email is true or not. Snopes! Fact check... I'll leave that one for you to find out if you really care to know. Preetha had a dictionary of dream interpretations, which I read a few passages from. It is interesting to discuss dreams with people and I hope you enjoy this painting as a visual discussion.

Another flower done in Carnegie at the family garden, these both being homegrown flowers. The sunflowers there are out of control - I don't think I have ever seen so many flowers on a stalk, usually there is just one big sunflower at the top but these ones might be hybrid. We were snacking on these miniature cucumbers today which were very tasty and smaller than a cherry tomato! Very fun spotting them and eating them fresh off the plant. In other news the gym that my brother frequents, LA Fitness in Bridgeville, PA, had a shooting today! This is very freaky news and can't believe it happened so close to where we live and also where my brother was working out just hours previous the shooting! I was actually probably painting this picture as it was happening. I am very excited still to go to CA, I will hopefully purchase my ticket tomorrow as our little car is not doing well one day after it passed state inspection and emissions.. go figure. ASMA is slated to start a new painting soon, I don't want to give away too many details but it does involve sheep so be on the lookout! Until next time, enjoy the artwork.

Ahhh okay, so this is my favorite one so far! This is the beauty of this exercise, each day could possibly be a new favorite all I can do is continue to go forth into the unknown. I am planning a visit to northern CA this month so it should get interesting painting in the airport or maybe do a still life of packing items. Or maybe a painting on the bus I will take? I am thinking about my portable situation also and I like the thickness of the canvases I have been using but I will have to stock up and I am debating whether to go with the panels or the 1 1/2" stretched canvas. Hopefully I will get out and practice my plein air as well with PShan. Anyways exciting time ahead, and we all need our sleep!

So only 3 paintings thus far, but I figure if I keep up with this project at least to the time my unemployment stops coming then ... I should have painted 253 paintings. Its a lot of practice even if I have to return to the "real world" eventually. At least ASMA is painting with me too, he just finished his painting called, Africa... which might be featured on his blog soon... or maybe I just want a little of his traffic flow? Painting a day movement

Don't buy your art at Ikea! Buy it on the internet. The masses are joining a movement toward independence for artists. The internet is bridging the gap between the collector or everyday art lover and artists all over the world.

After hearing about this nearly a year ago it has been in the back of my mind, what if I could do the thing I love the most full time; what if I never return to a cubicle and just paint! Not just paint here and there, but once per day do a small painting and sell it on the internet.

So in lieu of my acceptance into unemployment as of April, I have been brainstorming at how I might make this happen. Well this is the first step towards my long term freedom. One painting every single day.

This is a very interesting times we live in with the internet....

Artist buddies are important to have for inspiration. Today I had the pleasure of visiting my good friend Preethas house to paint with her. Preetha did an awesome painting for ASMA and myself for our wedding and actually we also received many beautiful paintings...

Progress.. One step at a time

Two posts in one day! Seems too much but I wanted to share progress with a painting I started yesterday, and also give a shout out to Zurich to let him know I am shipping his painting very soon.. here is a picture of it all wrapped up!

The painting is one that the Angry Scottish Man asked me to do.. and it was a bit difficult because the photo I picked to use as reference is a blurry one. It was a challenge to keep going after starting off with an underpainting that wasn't very exciting.. but as I picked up the brush once more today I started to like what I did. There is more to come as this is not finished but I hope you enjoy!

New Job, Full time painter

So now that the wedding planner title has been taken from me with the completion of our wedding, it is now time that I take up my new title as professional painter, artist, etc. This is the best and maybe only time I will have now to prove myself and whether or not I can market and start making a living through my
artwork. The main thing about this is that it will not be easy. There are a couple of things though.. I have artwork ready to sell now, I am prepared to talk to gallery owners and such to see if I can get in or what appropriate steps I might take now. I have posted 4 prints as a trial run on ebay to try to sell...

The only problem is that I had listed them at .99 to start the bidding and put free shipping to intice bidders.. and someone bid on two at .99cents.. so I raised the other two to 5.99 a piece so that at least I don't lose money.

Another thing I have done is register with Fine Art Registry which is a neat database/website... that keeps records of your work over time. They send you seals in the mail in which you put on your pictures to track and prevent copyright/forgery.. not that I am thinking I have that problem, but I care about my paintings and where they end up!

Linlithgow Palace for Ted & Anna Marie

Just got back from Illinois and Chicagoland where I was able to grace the Art Institute Museum and revisit many old favorites. Although we got there sort of late we were able to spend a good amount of time with the impressionists (notably the beautiful Monet room- and I was quite inspired by a particular VanGough piece) I spent many late hours talking with my uncle about approach and technique. We laughed about how weird it is to be apart of art and how art is apart of you. Many times the hardest part is the initial push to start a piece! Yesterday though a seemingly fleeting thought passed through my head. I thought I will start and finish a painting today. It was probably an hour later that I went straight to the computer to find the photograph then to the supplies. An old coworker of mine would call this "killing the idea" - so you have an idea in your head instead of letting it float around and taunt you, you should just get it over with and execute the idea and be done with it. So I think I am about done with this except for a few balancing strokes then off to find it a lovely frame. I am then packing and sending it on a journey to Scotland, where it belongs.

So even though I didn't paint outside, I sat at my window and painting the rugged urban landscape of the south side. It was raining outside very lightly.

Yes. I know this picture is really ridiculous, but the important part is that I witnessed people laughing at it when I wasn't looking. Anyway the point is I am starting to do these outdoor plein air paintings due to the inspiration of my aunt, whom took me out painting. So I will try and post them as I do them. Hopefully if it doesn't rain too much this weekend I will try to get out and paint some.
